Boxee has finally released an update for Linux that puts it on par with the Apple TV and Mac version’s of Boxee. The update is version number 0.9.11.5777 with download instructions found at http://app.boxee.tv/download.

It is available for Ubuntu Linux 8.04 (Hardy Heron), 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) and the newly released 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) 32-bit only (no 64-bit yet).

The biggest addition is the inclusion of the new XUL-based boxee browser. The new browser shares the same core architecture as any Mozilla browser (including Firefox) which now makes it even easier to view video from websites including video-content from Hulu. Yes Hulu is now back on Boxee!

The second is the redesign of the applicaition manager that has been renamed ‘App Box’. From the App Box, you can add or remove any of the available applications from the Boxee repository. If those aren’t enough, you can add in repositories from independent application devlopers such as BoxeeHQ (http://dir.boxeehq.com) and then apps like PBS or Twit.tv video which are not included in the official Boxee repository will become available to be added.

The other big addition are some newly created applications developed by Boxee including: Pandora, RadioTime, GeekBrief.TV, Mevio, BoingBoing, C-Net and College Humor video.

For those interested in creating their own Boxee Applications, there is now an official API that has been released along with an example application of how its created. Find out more details at: http://developer.boxee.tv/2009/04/14/building-your-first-boxee-app/

If you already are running Boxee, it can be updated through your update manager on Linux or for new users, it can be downloaded from http://app.boxee.tv/download.
